Corona programma

Do you also feel hopeless and helpless about  the quarantine that seems like never ending?
It has been more than three weeks of lockdown in Italy. This is being far from the greatest imagination of any of us. Is there anybody who could predict  this?. So as soon as we were thrown into unexpected quarantine we immediately jumped into creating The  Coronavirus program before we all got sick from boredom and laziness.

Cancelled meetings, hustle bustle supermarkets, worried calls from home. I didn't believe Coronavirus could arrive there. Fear was for some of us not understandable at all and I found memes from social media quite funny. But my point was going to change soon.
It felt like the end of the world when I woke up on the first day of quarantine and this mood doesn't seem to disappear soon. I still remember faces I saw that morning in the kitchen ,hardly distinguished between anger, surprise and fear.

The valley is awaking and turning green. Birds are welcoming the spring, everything out there seems peaceful apart from the silence in the streets. While everything in the world stopped, nature has its own time. It’s doesn't seem to care about humans struggles. French people are stressing about running out of tobacco, Lina makes a huge shop, Mariliis seems worried and I’m separated from my newfounding italian loves. The queue of people with their covemouth and gloves in front of the shop completely discourages me to wait for mascarpone, biscotti, cheese and  Italian wine. ‘Well at least I will gain my previous shape I had before coming there. It’s time to stop living consumption life and to start being creative with limited amount of food…’ I told myself

Everyday it’s becoming more and more difficult to get up of the bed and to find a motivation to be productive. The vision of the project is fading away as the smoke of Elisa and Jo’s cigarettes. They are satisfied to have enough tobacco to survive the quarantine.

But what can keep my mood boosted during this time?
Soon after that we have a video call with the organisation. They encourage us to make a plan and to be active. The project is not over yet. We are at Il Casone, a remote place far from the people but not completely out of the village. People in the big cities are locked and they are limited to move but we are grateful and lucky to carry on and work there. Creating Corona programm didn’t seem to make sense when the motivation was below  zero but staying productive can save us from depression. Mari and Lina have great supply of food and I still have some leftovers of mascarpone. It’s not so bad. I take a big inhale both of fresh mountain air and terrible smell of French people’s smoke, a large spoon of cheese and last pieces of biscotti and we can start with completing our program.

Together we finished the compost box made by our hands, we created some videos for children, we have done a big cleaning of Casone, a lot of creative ideas were made. As the tasks were one by one accomplished our mood grew slowly but steadily as the seeds we planted in the garden.
I could also see us growing as a group. Once we spent together a whole long day identifying group personality, reflecting the situation and it helped us to understand each other better. Eventually we are closer to each other now. There was no other choice. There was no way to escape and go away. :D:D:D

A coin has two sides. There is also positive points of view.  I have a lot of memorable moments that made me feel better. Trying all different board games from Il Casone while eating a lot of italian pizza, making a drawing challenge for developing our creativity with Mariliis. We had a lot of fun with games Lina carefully chose and prepared for us. With the beer we ordered from local producer and trying out Improvisation theatre the day became fabulous. The night I enjoyed the most was eating authentic crepes made by French people Elisa and Jo. I also appreciate little things like enjoying with others the sun during the lunch break, making lasagna for everybody…
The wind of change came unexpectedly. But as we grow we become stronger. I believe we will fight together against all the odds as long as the project will not be cancelled.
That’s all from our Corona program for this moment. Stay tuned, the report from your volunteer group is coming soon !
